About Croatia – everyone knows about the marvelous coast of this country considered one of the most beautiful in the world. But I wanted to see what else the country had to offer. After driving 1900 kms in six days, I can honestly say that there is an astonishing wealth of interesting archaeological and historical sites We have been trying to get a grasp on the Balkan history – whew! Very convoluted and complicated – Croats, Serbs, Bosnians, Ottomans – all converging in this small area I definitely need to do some research when I return home. Today was very special. Rijeka Croatia

The Kvarner Riviera is located next to Istria and is centred on the main Croatian port of Rijeka, the busiest port on the Adriatic. The most famous resort in the area is Opatija, with Lovran, Crikvenica, Kraljevica and Novi Vinodolski also popular. The Kvarner Riviera has a long association with tourism with some resorts - especially Opatija and Crikvenica - emerging as popular holiday places in the late 19th century. Opatija in particular was an upmarket resort visited by many well-to-do holidaymakers - including various European royal family members - and is still considered something of an upmarket resort today - Click Here - More information

From Elsewhere in Croatia
Rijeka is pretty well connected by train and bus from elsewhere in Croatia. There is also a coastal ferry route that begins in Rijeka and goes to Split Stari Grad on Hvar, Korcula and Dubrovnik and on to Bari in Italy run by Jadrolinija. It's a great way to travel down the Croatian coastline
